Blackthorne is a 3rd person action/adventure game released by Blizzard around the same time as Warcraft. Unfortunately, it didn´t catch on very well and sales were low for a very good game. The game was also released for the Super Nintendo. If you haven´t played Blackthorne you´re missing out a gem in gaming history.

In Blackthorne you control Kyle Blackthorne as he returns to his home world Tuul. An evil warrior named Sarlac attacked Tuul over twenty years ago, and his father sent him to Earth just as his civilization crumbled. Now that Kyle is "grown up" he must return to free his people from the evil warrior. Sarlac has enslaved most of them in his mines which is where the game is set.

The game is very easy to play with a tutorial level at the beginning. It´s a side scroller much like Prince of Persia. However, instead of using a sword you get guns and bombs. The game has some puzzle elements which make it more interesting to play. However, there are several areas in which the puzzles are frustrating, not because they are hard, but because you need to run around the level grabing so many things.

The graphics and sound show a lot of effort. However, the game only has one music track which can get annoying after extended playing. You can always turn the music off if you wish and concentrate on shooting orcs. Overall this is an excellent game which all gamers should have in their collection.

The Super NES version misses out the blood in the Game Over scene. The 32X version has it.

Are we missing out on any content by not having the .iso version of the game? How do you know if any given game has had content stripped from it or not?

The full game download has been replaced. Now the game should work like a charm when using Windows XP, Vista and 7.

When you experience any difficulties concerning running the game please send me a message by clicking my username. Thanks in advance.

Have fun!

I've been using this nickname for more than 10 years in tribute to this game. Shame on Blizzard for going after Warcraft on the Humans vs Orcs theme and leaving Blackthorne to oblivion.
