A fabulous game. They don't do games like this one nowadays... While the graphics are certinaly dated, there's too much to this game so one can't afford not to play it.

The game puts you in the shoes of one of two characters (male and female - the very possibility to choose is nice, though there are no actual differences between the characters). You can either play Edward Carnby, a private investigator with a penchant for terrible, unexplained cases ("Devil woshipping makes me smile, so this was my idea of a paid vacation", as he states), or Emily Hartwood, whose uncle Jeremey has commited suicide for an inexplicable reason. Both search Decerto, a haunted mansion, for clues concerning the reasons for Jeremey's final and fatal decision.

The atmosphere of this game is great. You can truly feel the evil has infested Decerto, from the foundations to the very roof top. The entire scenery is so strong it truly has a personality of its own, kind of like the Overlook hotel from "The Shining". The camera angels are beautiful, the monsters are scary (especially the Cthonian, the invincible ghosts and the blasphemous entity guarding the main doors) and the creepy books create a chilling and unnerving atmosphere.

The game is, in my opinion, the easiest of all three AITD games. There are few enemies, comparing to the other AITD games, and most of them can and SHOULD be avoided as they are unkillable. Sometimes the seemingly unkillable enemies must be defeated with a special tactic (using a specific item or weapon), so one must never say never.

Anyhow, while the graphics of this game seem hideous nowadays, back at 1992 they were state-of-the-art. This game is so fun and so creepy, even after all of these years, so simply try to overcome the graphics and enjoy the grandfather of Survival Horror.

The backgrounds are a mix of 3D and 2D. 3D is used to create enviroments in wireframe and 2D is used for the background

The floppy version has a twist: If you die, a Chopin piece plays as you get dragged and sacrificed shortly after.
