Donkey Kong Country has to be one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played on any console, including the SNES! From beginning to end you are filled with humor and excitement in a platform adventure game that never seems to get boring.

You can play one of two characters, Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong, both of which have their own advantages and disadvantages. Donkey Kong, the star of the game is bigger and stronger; however Diddy Kong is smaller but much faster! Both characters are great fun to play as and both have their own little unique moves and characteristics. My personal favorite has to be little Diddy Kong, he´s so fun and fast I always end up switching character to him half way through the level! Donkey Kong is great to play with as well and he himself is a very humorous character.

The game play in this game is great! You can play Donkey Kong Country solo or with a friend. In two-player CONTEST mode, you alternate with a friend to see who can finish the most levels in the shortest amount of time. In two-player team mode, both players alternate control during the game, with one controlling Donkey Kong, and the other controlling Diddy Kong. This is a great way for a younger player to play along with an older, or more experienced player! You have help throughout the game from various members of the King family, all whom want you to succeed and want to help benefit you the most.

The controller functions in Donkey Kong Country are very basic, which is great as it lets you enjoy the games graphics, sound and game play, rather than trying to remember which button does a spin jump or which does the cartwheel mega move! Buttons include jump, special, and run, very simple.

There are 8 territorial maps in which you will have to play and complete in order to win the game, they range from jungle heat to winter terrain, and all need their own type of attention to be played at best! In each map Donkey Kong will have friends come to his aid, including a Rhino, Swordfish, Frog, Parrot and Ostrich, all with their own abilities to defeat enemies. There are tons of secret levels in this game, always try to explore every level thoroughly to find them as you can find many goodies such as extra lives, as I found saved me a few times!

Okay lets get down to basics, did this game look cool or did it smell of fish? The truth - it is one of the best games I have ever seen and listen to in action! The visuals are amazing for a 16 bit system; in fact it is the best looking platform game I have ever seen! There is so much detail on characters and scenery that you would think you was playing the N64! As for the sounds they are perfect! Each section of the game and each level have their own music score, along with various types of in-game sound effects.

I bought this game the other day for my SNES, and it was the best money I have spent in a long time! This is a must play game!!
