So... RockStar brought out a new game. Nothing special we would think, but then you're wrong. GTA 2 is one of the best games from its time. The probably most important reason is because it's so addictive and fun. I mean, who wouldn't like to run away from the cops, kill innocent people and work for criminals? Lets put this game in detail:

Graphics:
Not bad for a platform game. Too bad that most of the levels are dark so you can see a lot but when you press F8 you can switch to noon which will clear everything up. You can see that it's night, the light of cars reflect very well on the road. The most spectacular thing about this game are explosions, they look very cool and create a new graphical effect, some graphics cards (especially good old Voodoo cards) can't even handle this so graphically this game asks a lot from your video card. However, the graphics are improved a LOT when we compare it to GTA 1's graphics, everything looks really smooth and almost like a real city, GTA 1 was just some plain old 'software rendering' game (except when you had a 3DFX carcd), but the 2nd version really did the trick. Now, onto the weapon graphics. Although where you can see what weapon you are using looks cheap, the effect are very nice except for hand gun's. You only see a red dot coming out of it which is not very realistic when we compare it to the flamethrower, the lightning gun and the molotov cocktails. All of this stuff really gives a great effect and people going up (realistic) in flames makes everyone happy that likes to kill people.

Gameplay:
One word: Supreme. Mugging cars, killing cops, do illegal missions. You can mug any car you would like and the controls of the car are really simple. One button to go forward and one button to stop. The controls when you just normally walk is something to get used with but is quite simple after a little bit of training. The world of GTA 2 is not realistic but that's what makes it fun. If the cops can't handle it, the SWAT team shows up! if they can't handle it, the FBI will show up, and when it's even to hard for them to arrest you, yep you already guessed it, the army! They will drive in tanks through the city and also fire at you but a good thing is that you can also steal a tank so you can drive like a mad man through the city. One of the funniest things is that you can steal a fire engine and use its hose the spray on everyone with the dead as result.

Sound:
Medicor. Not very good, the cars don't make really realistic noises when they break. Probably the only better point when we look at the sounds is that you can hear people swearing and when you drive people over you'll here some kind of 'splash' sound like in Carmageddon. The rest of the sound is quite bad.

Overall:
Awesome game; the adrenaline drives you mad when you play this game. You can do a lot, from escaping from the cops to killing people with a flamethrower. This game is one of my personal favorites. If you have the guts, and like to disobey the rules, play this game and you won't be disappointed at all.

The Playstation version censores the cuss words on the "Taxi drivers must die" song. How could they censor swearing in a song?

Right after the third game, some employees (such as Steve Banks) left the company and founded Real Time Worlds.

Track 12 in the freeware version is radio chatter. It is a recording of New York police radio. You can change the background audio by having 22khz APDCM compressed 16 bit Wave files.

Agreed. But before you must play, check out the reviews by GameSpot and IGN.
