A rather basic game of exploration, piracy and trade.
The gameplay ranges from simplistic to highly complicated depending on your play style. Nothing emphasizes this as being a trader. Buy low, sell high. A simple concept yet in this game can be quite difficult. Certain cities have a "main" good which has a low cost only there, like carpets in Istanbul, and the problem is knowing the exact amount the store will sell for, having someone knowledgeable in trade, like one of the chars you start out with, will allow this to be simple. Piracy is also difficult in that you need to chose your targets wisely, attack the wrong ship and you could end up with an entire country after you. The rather exact angle your ship must be to attack can be rather annoying and the 'rock, paper, scissors'-esque battle system between your flagship and your opponents can be either very easy (save state), or very difficult. Exploration is the simplest, find villages, explore them, and tell the tale in taverns.

Graphics are what you would expect in a SNES game, not bad, but not great. The world map (literally) can be confusing so it helps if you have an atlas beside you.

Not much to say about sound. A Simple soundtrack can get annoying after a while.

Due to the way you have 6 characters to chose from and that each has his or her own story, strengths and weaknesses, and main way of making money, the replay value is extremely high. Also, the extreme length of each persons quest makes this a great pass time. It could easily take you over 80 hours to beat each characters story.

All in all a great game for passing the time. Not much to look at and can be tedious and repetitive as a trader, going back and forth between a pair of ports, but is still highly amusing.
