Star Wars: Dark Forces is properly not the best game of its year. It's a fun game though and many Star Wars fans will enjoy this game. Again, like the movies, you'll have to defeat the bad guys and rescue the Princess and save the universe. LucasArts didn't put enough in this game to make it the best game around, but it's nice to play it.

The graphics are properly the worst of its age. The graphics could be much better, everything it just too blocky. However the scenery and the background is good. When you see a giant space station, it looks realistic and well made for its age. The scenery, for example rocks, aren't blocky at all, so is the space station scenery (monitors and that stuff). The enemies are just like in the movie. Some enemies are new though, like commanders on ships. The weapons are really original and most of them aren't in the movie itself. You have hand gradates and of course a laser gun. Blood lovers won't like this game so much because there isn't any blood in it, for example when you throw a hand grenade at somebody, he flies in the air and he just lands without blood or so. So that isn't very realistic, even when you fire a bazooka at somebody, there isn't any blood or other kind of 'blood'. The background is quite basic for its age, just some planet scenery like stars and mountains. As you can see that the graphics are not great. The blocky effect could be a whole lot less, so is the weapon fire and just too many other stuff. However, most of the characters look 2D which is common for its age and nothing to be sad about.

Now, onto the gameplay: Nothing special, but impressive. Just like any other average shoot 'm up game. Almost every level is maze and you actually had to view the movie before you really know what you have to do or what switches you have to activate or deactivate. The gamplay is quite fun though. Shooting everybody with your laser gun is quite funny to see (The sound and everything). This game is quite hard to complete because of all the maze levels and when many enemies are around you, it's very hard to stay alive. The game doesn't follow a very sharp storyline though, you just have to battle your way into space ships. Sometimes there is a small cut scene with some text and a picture that makes it more clear what is going on. The controls are quite confusing when you play it for the first time, because you don't know which buttons does what and the buttons are all over the keyboard, but when you get the hang of it, you can move freely around in the levels. So the gameplay is quite unique which is good.

The music and sound: awesome. The laser shots and the commands of the enemy are just right out of the movie. So is the voice acting, really good and it almost looks if the movie sounds were made for the game.

In overall this is a real classic, the graphics could be better but the gameplay and the sound makes everything much better. This game is also interesting for non-Starwars fans. So, are you ready to enter the great world of Star Wars? May the force be with you...
