This game is an all time classic. Before the big game companies stole the rights to form the horrid works of Sonic as it is today, the Sonic & Knuckles Collection was a masterpiece for the brilliant company that was SEGA. This game was an awesome piece of work for it's generation of gaming and because it is still played till this day proves that it deserves the right to have that title.

Gameplay 9/10

The Sonic & Knuckles Collection keeps the side scrolling gameplay of its predecessors but also adds one of the first 3D elements in its quest to gets the "Chaos Emeralds" this gives the game that much more of a kick to the previous ones. Next there is Knuckles, the gliding, climbing, long haired git of an arch-enemy is made into a playable character. Knuckles' addition to the game adds another good feel to the game. Allowing you to explore different areas with much more ease. Then there is the multiplayer function of the game where you can get your half-baked mates to play as tails and get them to fly your lazy ass upto all points of the playing ground so that you can get all of the fruits of their labour. All-in-all the gameplay of the S&K Collection was the baseline of all that was beatiful about the Sonic Saga.

Sound 7/10

Well what can I say except for the fact that the game was made in the 1990's. It did have relatively good sound though. The music wasn't too crash hot, there wasn't any heavy metal in the active areas or any soppy orchestra music in the parts where sonic is screwed over but there are some good little mono sounds that seem to put a beat in your head. Along side these are good sound effects that fit wel with what the game has to th no lag or time between the action and the effect. Even in the areas where your flying down a hill sucking up twenty rings a second, there is still good sound quality to match the gameplay.

Graphics 8.5/10

The best 2D side-scroller of the twentieth century? I believe so! Flying around a full-pipe clocking up 120 on the descent, while the little stars flash where the rings used to be and meanwhile a little three tailed brown-noser is chasing your ass with all his might. Beautiful! The graphics may not be that of Half-Life 2 but if it had been, would the game have been so good? The game is fast paced but there is no lag even if everything that could happen does and all at the same time. Sure in the odd case where there is lag you can be angry but just try to pretend that you are Neo, pushing yourself beyond the limits to defy the time-space continuum so that you can get those rings before they disappear into the twilight of space.

Lifespan 8/10

The game takes on the same story no matter what character you use but in chosing your character you alow yourself to get to different areas that you couldn't reach before hand. The game is relatively long and doesn't have much variation but with a bit of imagination you can go from boring old Sonic to "Sonic and the Raiders of the lost Ark" exploring every inch of the game finding stuff that you never though could have existed unless you had looked. Add this to the fact that it is a great game to play with your mates after a few drinks at 3 a.m. then you should get tonnes of enjoyments of of playing this all time classic.

Overall 9/10

I know it doesn't add up but in playing this game I have come to the conclusion that it is a classic and I would prefer to play it over a next-generation game that requires 9 GB of hard disk space just so I can crap my pants and eventually watch my computer explode from over use when I can play this game with the same enjoyment and without forking out $400 for a top-end graphics card. Not to mention the fact that your girlfriend with probably find the little sissy fox "SOOOO CUTE!" because she doesn't actually know that your secretly plotting to hand him over to DR. Robotnic and finally get rid of his pansy ass! So do yourself a favour and download this game! You'll love it!

To solve the speed problem, download this patch at: http://info.sonicretro.org/images/c/c1/S3kpatch.7z
extract it, put it in the sonic folder, execute it and check the option. Solved  :)
