Some of you people know that Takara didn't make many games, but the games they published were quite good. Battle Arena Toshinden is one of those good Takara games. You can play this game against a friend, via LAN or against the computer. Each character has its own story to enter the Arena and win. For some of them it's for their journey and experience, for others, to win their beloved back.

BAT features some nice graphics for its time. The players are good detailed and the special moves of fire balls and stuff are looking quite realistic. The players are also moving really good and nothing is overpushed. There isn't much scenery, well... maybe the background, it adds an extra touch of your current location but it's not very special, most levels contain a simple background which is a sad thing because they could be much better back in 1996. Sometimes your sword or weapon goes trough you, which isn't nice, a glitch but many games had this problem during the mid nineties. Proberly the worst thing about the graphics is the arena a fight takes place, it looks quite blocky and you would have expected more if you see what the characters' graphics look like. So the major PROS of the graphics are the weapons and the nice detailed fighters.

Now, onto the gameplay. Simply said: superb. When you get the hang of the controls this game is very easy. There are only two weak in the gameplay: the game is too easy to complete, only one or two characters are a little bit more difficult to control. The other weak point is that special moves are a way too difficult to perform, the desperatation and the special moves are nearly impossible. On the Playstation this wasn't the case however. You've to fight your way to the top.

When you have completed this game, you will see some personal text about the player you were playing and then you see his or her desperatation move, very spectaculair to watch, but as said before, nearly impossible to perform. Every player has their own special moves and attacks to kill the opponent as fast as possible. At the end of the game, you've to battle against Gaia and Sho, and Earthworm Jim o.o. The most experienced battlers of the game, one of them is very strong, the other is very fast and the last one... well he's just a like a character we know.

And last, but definatly not the least: the audio. The background music is quite descent, but the voice acting is a whole lot better. It is very clear which really adds that little extra touch to the game which will help you to play BAT over and over again.

So, do you want to step in the arena and are you ready for the battle of your life? Do you want to prove that you are the greatest warrior ever? Then download this game, it is a classic and many people will like this game.
