Short Introduction:
The fifth game in the Test Drive series, once again it features better graphics than any previous Test Drive game, but for the rest the game still isn´t as good as it could be, especially when we look at the gameplay and "reality" factor, the gameplay simply isn´t realistic and gives you the feeling that you´re controlling a plane, the reality factor is very bad, for example the traffic is very unrealistic and when you crash your car will fly to the moon and within´ a couple of seconds it will be back on earth, just like nothing happened before, not even a little scratch will be visible. Test Drive 5 contains many different cars, from new sports cars up to old Ford Mustangs, and it also features about fourteen different tracks, the cover shows about twenty eight but in the end all tracks are available in normal and mirror mode. Test Drive 5 contains as good as every track that was available in Test Drive 4, the only real improvement in this game are the graphics and 3DFX support, which is very cool especially when you own a good old Voodoo 2 card.

The Graphics:
The graphics of this game are great; you can even play it in a 1280x1024 (or higher) pixel mode, which is extremely high for a game from this age. But when we take a closer look at it you´ll notice that they aren´t that good at all, Test Drive 5 just uses simple 2D objects to create a 3D environment, it looks very flat, even the car´s tires aren´t completely round. The engine used for this game may be good but the game itself doesn´t look good enough, when the developer (Pitbull) spend a little bit more time on this game the "flat" feeling would be less or not even there at all but they failed at this point.

Music and Sound:
The music this game has are real soundtracks, I´m sure you´ll recognize some songs but I´ve to say that the "90Mb" version you can download here doesn´t contain music but when you can get an original copy you really have to check it out. The sounds are very primitive, for example when you press the horn, you will hear a sound of about 2 seconds and it´s unrealistic too because it doesn´t sound good of course and because when you hold the horn you´ll notice that this game constantly repeats that 2 second sound... so in the end the sound effects are cheap and simple.

What do you have to do:
What you really have to do in this game is race and win championships like in as good as every racing game, when you win a championship you will be awarded with new cars and new tracks, you´ve to unlock all tracks and cars this way, very simple but the game itself isn´t very easy at all, even on "easy" this game can be very hard. Next to the normal, I can better say "usual" races you can also become a cop, which is very cool, in this case you´ve to arrest your opponents, and that´s fun, promise me, you can choose between four different police cars, like an old American beast or one of the latest sports car.

The gameplay:
This is one of the most unrealistic points of this game, Test Drive 5 doesn´t even give you the feeling that you´re driving a car, my impression was that I was just controlling an airplane. There is also a good thing to say about the gameplay, because it´s very easy to learn, you only need a couple of buttons to control your car, for the rest when you choose for manual transmission (I want to suggest you to use it because the automatic transmission doesn´t show the real quality of the cars, like the top speed or acceleration), you just have to press A to shift up or Z to shift down (well... maybe the buttons are wrong but I always use A and Z for the "transmission" part).

Conclusion:
Test Drive 5 contains enough to keep you busy for hours but... because of the unrealistic gameplay and flat graphics this game isn´t as good as it could be and won´t keep you busy for long these days. My suggestion is to look for a better racing game like Need For Speed III or Viper Racing.

It might be my cup of tea since Need for Speed 3, this racer should hit it on. 6/10 "fair"

The crashes sound like tires being hit.
