The original Driver game was a really cool game. This game should not be abandoned yet because of the addicting and very realistic gameplay.

The gameplay was the best part of the game. You were Tanner, an ex-racecar driver that becomes a cop. You go undercover. First thing you do in Undercover mode is you have to take a test. You can’t start Undercover mode until you pass that test. The test is on your driving skills and you must complete the checklist in the time limit without crashing more than 3 times. If you are struggling, you can do training and it will go through the test with you. After that, you can go give the test another shot. After you pass the test, you get your own apartment and you can browse around. You can Take a Ride or you can start getting to work. Unlike many other games, you can actually choose different missions which cause different endings at the game. When you are driving, the physics are very realistic. What stands out is the drifting around corners and doing the famous burnout that has always been in Driver. Another neat feature is the cruise control which lets you blend in with the traffic when the cops are up the street. The police chases are the best part of Driver. They will call back up and set up road blocks to stop you. What they do is crash into your car to wreck it. The game did have pedestrians but they were just moving decorations that walk through everything.

The graphics are very nice in Ultra mode. They have car reflections, realistic lighting, and high detail textures. The car shapes varied from the PS1 version. The PS1 version had much more realistic car shapes than the PC version. The car damage was not very exciting in the first Driver. There was only black smoke, dents in the body, and sometimes fire.

The sound was fairly decent. My version of the Driver PC version had no soundtrack since it was purchased from ActiveMark so I cannot judge the soundtrack. The car engines all sounded the same which was really a downside in the sound effects. The sound effects are very realistic sounding.

Overall, the game is a very good classic and it is highly recommended that you go and obtain a copy of this great game. I rate this game a 9/10.

Groovy little game. I have noticed that hours of listening to the police sirens will drive women insane with bouts of screaming, and stomping and with fits of hysteria

This game is still being sold, that's why it doesn't have a download.
