This game is one of my favorite SNES games. Nine years after the last Mario game was released, Nintendo released another great and very enslaving Mario game: Super Mario World, it was exclusive for a brand new console called the Super Nintendo (a.k.a. SNES).

The graphics are supremely used, unlike in the previous games, the characters now have shade and special lightning effects on them so they don't look flat anymore, but this is one of the advantages of a 16 bit machine instead of the 8 bit NES. Every world is nicely drawn, each castle looks like a real castle and when you complete a level, something explodes in a sort of "cartoon" movie or on the map, it´s very nicely done. The backgrounds gives this game an extra touch that let it look much more realistic than older Mario games, you can see it as a sort of backup to the level itself and the scenery. When you are in the water, the level has a 'wave' effect on it so it´s really like you´ re underwater. Each world and level has its own unique scenery, which really adds something special to this game..

This game offers one of the best gameplays ever seen on the SNES games. It´s not hard to control this game so even young children will be able to handle this game. When you play it for about 10 minutes you can already jump away from some enemies and hurt bad ` creatures´ and that´s just what this game is all about. The game itself is quite hard to complete, like all Mario games. Every world gets harder and harder. The objective of this game is to fight your way trough all the worlds and win the battle against evil Bowser at the end of the game and safe princess Peech. At the end of each world, Mario destroys the castle and you will get some information so it's not hard to follow the story line for the rest this is also a point where you can save the game. For the rest every world has its own unique end boss in its own special castle.

Like every Mario game, you have to pick up a mushroom to grow and pick up a flower to get a white suit so you can throw fireballs for the rest the people at Nintendo did a great job by adding Yoshi to this game. The "fly" feature which was introduced in Super Mario 3 is still there, when you run fast enough you can really fly. Another good new thing, which was added, is reserves, when you already have a power-up and when you pick up another one, it will be added to the top of the screen. When you´re hurt, the power-up from the top of the screen will fall down so you can pick it up and grow again. At the end of each level, you have to touch a bar, which is moving up and down. The higher the bar is when you touch it, the more points you'll get. You can also make nice combos in this game, for example when you have jumped on a turtle enemy, you can pick up its shell and release it when there are many enemies at a place, the more you hit the more points you'll get and possibly an extra live or even multiple extra lives. The enemies are quite original. Some good old turtles and some bosses also return in this game, it´s very nice to see the difference between the originals and the "SNES" remake of it. Every enemy has its own power and difficulty so you´ve to use different methods to defeat them.

The music has an extra SNES background music in it. The same tune as the previous ones. The music makes the game more exiting. When you lose a live you´ll hear the same irritating sound as in the previous games. And when you are in a castle near the end boss, you hear a scary sound, which I will always remember because

So, in a nutshell, this is simply one of the best games ever made for the SNES and it belongs in the collection of any SNES fan. Nintendo really did a nice job again. So, when you want to defeat the evil Bowser and save the world and Peech, check this out or we can just wait and see... and miss a great classic like this.
